The Forster family papers, 1891-1942, (bulk 1899-1901). 1891-1942.

Collection consists of three financial ledgers (1891-1942) and three missionary journals (1899-1901). The financial ledgers concern Mathew A. Forster and John E. Buckland. The missionary diaries (books 4-6) concern Mathew McCullough Forster during his mission to Barnsley, England. Books 1-2 of the financial ledgers were written by Mathew A. Forster when he operated a general store in Anaconda, Montana, and contain the financial records of the store (1891-1892). Book 3 is a farm labor book with a record of farm work and payroll (also contains a scriptural handwritten discourse), recorded by John E. Buckland (1930-1942).

Mathew McCullough Forster (not to be confused with his first cousin Mathew A. Forster who was also a photographer in Mendon) was born on March 29, 1860, in Mendon, Utah. He was said to have been the second child born in Mendon. He served on a mission for the LDS Church to Great Britain from 1899-1901. Upon his return he was engaged as the postmaster of Mendon and as a photographer. He also served as a counselor in the Y.M.M.I.A., and was elected Secretary of the city of Mendon in 1913. Mathew A. Forster was born July 10, 1867, in Mendon, Utah, to Robert and Agnes Forster. Mathew A. lived in Mendon until 1891 when he found employment in Anaconda, Montana, working as a store clerk and manager. By 1905, he had returned to Mendon, and was working as the town postmaster and a photographer. In 1913 Mathew A. was elected to serve as secretary for the town mayor, and later became city treasurer.
